a little something to think about
Sep. 22nd, 2004 11:38 amHappy first day of Fall!
Happy birthday Bilbo and Frodo! And yes, I do mean the hobbits from the Lord of the Rings. Yes, I know I am a geek. Shush. It's fun to celebrate fictional characters' birthdays.
Yay for good forwards. Blatantly copied from
tigerlily25. A nice lesson about priorities in life. And yes, it's at my regular journal too. Eventually I'll stick it in the content part of my site. Yeah. That content part that I haven't updated in months. Whatever. On to the goodness!
Live life to the fullest and be happy!!!!__________________THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEEWhen things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in aday are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar ... and the coffee .A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in frontof him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large andempty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He thenasked the students if the jar was full.. They agreed that it was.So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into thejar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areasbetween the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar wasfull. They agreed it was.The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Ofcourse, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jarwas full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table andpoured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the emptyspace between the sand. The students laughed."Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, " I want you torecognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are theimportant things-God, family, your children, your health, your friends, andyour favorite passions/things that if everything else was lost and onlythey remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the otherthings that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand iseverything else - the small stuff."If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no roomfor the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spendall your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room forthe things that are important. Pay attention to the things that arecritical to your happiness.. Play with your children. Take time to getmedical checkups. Take your wife/husband/kids out to dinner. Maybe evenplay another 18. There's always time to clean the house and fix thedisposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that reallymatter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffeerepresented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you thatno matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple ofcups of coffee with a friend."
And since I was there, a quiz from
tigerlily25 as well.
My angst tastes like...

Vanilla
Find your angst's flavor
Simple and true, your angst is just the amount of any normal person. What's more, you exercise an extremely honest and healthy way of dealing with it. Many people could use maturity and wisdom like yours. Your angst may be that you don't get along with your boss or a family member is having health problems, but either way it's always something transient and survivable that you cope with and use as a step on your way to becoming a better person. If there's one problem with your angsting, it's that you may tend to take this matter-of-fact, dutiful approach to all things. Maybe you should cut loose a little now and then so you can have some wild fun and adventure to balance out your angst. Remember that life needs its up as well as its downs and treat yourself to a little reward for your work.
