Down the rabbit hole

etoilineI woke up this morning and it was dark. Which isn't unusual, since my room normally takes on a grey tinge as the sun comes up, but today it was dark. No light whatsoever. I remembered something fluffy and white hopping around in my dream, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what that meant. I got up and slipped on my sandals, made my way to the door, opened it, and walked into a party. Thank goodness I wore my new pajamas.
Yes, there was a party going on outside my bedroom door, but it wasn't in the hallway of the apartment; it was in a grand ballroom filled with people. The noise level was deafening and I wondered how I hadn't heard it before. Perhaps that's what woke me up, though the party looked to be in full swing. Everyone was wearing masks, and suddenly one was pushed into my hands, the laughing voice whirling away in the press of people. I donned it, but as my hands were descending from my ears someone grabbed them and whisked me into the circling dancers, pajamas and all.
Somewhere in mid-step I remembered I had work to do, and when I blinked I was at the lab, my trusty pajamas keeping me warm. I did my piece, then wondered how on earth I was supposed to get home, as all my keys and ids and car, for that matter, were back at the apartment. But luckily, at that moment, the white rabbit who had showed up in my dreams hopped past, and I followed him into the tissue culture room. He jumped right up into the hood, leapt straight up, and disappeared. And since the rest of the day was going so well, I did the same, no matter that the hood was sterile and much too small for me, and like to break if I jumped...
and that was my crazy mixed up day through the tunnel of the white rabbit.
