n. A long word.
adj.
1. Given to or characterized by the use of long words.
2. Long and ponderous; polysyllabic.
1615, from L. sesquipedalia verba "words a foot-and-a-half long," in Horace's "Ars Poetica" (97), nicely illustrating the thing he is criticizing, from sesqui- "half as much again" (see sesquicentennial) + pes "foot" (see foot)
I *knew* there was a word for it. I've been accused of this, but never in somany few words...
Saw Spider-Man 3 last night at the midnight premiere, which I'm not cut out for anymore (so sad). It was fun...but it tried to skirt the line between campiness and ridiculousness, and more often than not fell into the ridiculousness...come on, Peter Parker in eyeliner? He looked like Jared Leto in the band 30 Seconds to Mars.
Fun nonetheless.
